512 will be good but 1 gb will make things run really fast, even when you start piling the applications and programs on there. lol

Should be OK with 512MB unless you’ll be doing a lot of gaming or video. Memory is cheap and you can always upgrade later. Look to see if the 512MB is installed as two 256MB chips that fill up both slots. If so, you’ll have to scrap one of them when you upgrade. If it has just one 512MB chip, you can just buy another one and install it. Hope this helps…

Here’s some info:
I got a laptop from my High School to take home to throw a thing called Linux on it. It had XP Professional with no crapware on 56MB from the motherboard and it was really fast! You have Home Edition and a lot of programs or files probably. I suggest going to and running their memory adviser so you can choose the best RAM for your computer.
I suggest 1GB if your computer can handle it.
There is a limit on how much RAM your computer will take; the Crucial thing will tell you that information.

512 MB is plenty, since my laptop has 256 MB of RAM, and it works great. 1 GB is only necessary if you will be playing video games, or RAM ******* applications.
