We are recently retired, own a small home in So. California on a main street in a fast growing town. We're unhappy with the fast growth, so many people, and too many cars. Because of our medical insurance and finances, if we sell our home and relocate, our only option to be closer to our kids is Georgia. We want to use the profit from the sale of our home in Calif. to pay cash for another home so we won't have a mortgage payment. We will be going there soon to check it out. Does anyone have any advice for a native Californian about Northern Georgia? Weather, bugs, etc.? We're looking at Cartersville and Acworth (just north of Atlanta).

well you own your own house so its really best for you to stay where you are if your happy. You may get down to georgia and not have anything so if u have a home and you have everything you need then stay dont move.You may get down there and have nothing but you already have everthing you need where you are so jus do what your heart says is best talk it over with your husband or wife and make the right choice for the both of you but make sure you have the money and things you need before you move somewhere that you dont kno anybody and wont have help if you need it.

Well I don’t know anything about bugs in Georgia.
I do know several people have relocated to Prescott Arizona. From So. Cal. When they talk about their move it is said Presccott reminds them of a rual town in California.
And not very many Bugs in Prescott either. If you plan to drive to Georgia give prescott a peek. It’s growing But not to fast. Homes are very nice. Climate is ccool in the summer. The winters are not all that chilly.

Sell Home Fast
I was born and raised in Atlanta, so I’ll tell you what I can.
By living in Ackworth or Cartersville, you should be able to avoid a lot of the growth that seems to be happening lately. I lived in Roswell and Marietta for a time, and I don’t even recognize it anymore!! It’s been a while since I’ve been up north, but that has always been a quiet part of the state.
We do have our share of cold winters, but that’s nothing compared to the muggy summers. I was stationed in California for 2 1/2 years (Vandenberg Air Force Base near Santa Barbara) and the dry heat just didn’t compare with the humidity in Georgia. Be prepared to find a pool or soak yourself with hose when May or June comes around!!!
Georgia also has it’s fair share of mosquitos (especially far from the city areas) in the summer, so it might be a good idea to keep a can of “Off” on hand.
As far as recreation goes, Georgia has plenty to offer. If you like amusement parks, look no further than “Six Flags Over Georgia”. While it’s not as pristine as Disney or other parks with the “Six Flags” moniker, there are plenty of coasters to challenge all. Stone Moutain is a great outdoor spot to spend a long weekend. Be sure to head there in the summer to check out the nightly laser show. If you are a sports fan, downtown Atlanta is the place to be. Even if you are not a fan of the Georgia teams, you can go to Turner field for baseball (one of the best ballparks in major league baseball), the Georgia Dome for football, and Phillips Arena for hockey.
There are just too many things to list, so I suggest finding a guide to downtown Atlanta to find what you like.
The people are also very friendly. I have brought many friends from all around the country to visit my home state, and each person has commented on how friendly and helpful everyone is. I’m not saying there aren’t any unsavory types in Georgia, but you will be hard-pressed to find one.

By the way…make sure you head to downtown Atlanta, and grab a bite to eat at “The Varsity”. It’s right off of I-75, across from Georgia Tech. It’s considered by many Atlanta-natives to be the Mecca of fast food.
