Pretty S asked:
I have the idea and I've printed business cards, I have a domain name and I'm working on a website, and I know what I have to do, but I'm stuck.
I feel nervous to start making phone calls and doing the marketing! I need some advice and motivation.
I'm going to do a home staging business (decorating homes to sell faster and for more money - like the TV show "Sell tThis House") - so I have to start calling real estate agents, and putting ads on craig's list.
I think I'm afraid to actually do this. Help?

Fear of success.
Fear of failure.
Fear of rejection.
Fear of unknown.
F = false
E = evidence
A = appearing
R = real
Motivation is an external force and as such will always need feeding, stimulation and nourishing from the outside. As people, (we like it, acknowledge it or not) we are spiritual beings, anything that comes from our spirit does not and will not need any motivation.
Search in your spirit and honestly answer to yourself only: “Why am I entering this business? What was my inspiration to take the first step? The second step? Business card printing?”
You are making an attempt to abandon your developed employee mentality, you will be able to abandon all your false fears as well.
Look up similar businesses to yours located out of your city or even the state.
Get hold of the owners, create a network exchanging ideas and support for each other.

Do you know what you are doing? I mean, are you good at this? Have you done any homes and taken pictures for a portfolio?
Making a website is great, listing your services on Craigslist is great… BUT how many realtors are actually going to spend their time searching the web for these type services? From experiences of a friend I know who does this, NOT many. All she has on her website is a brief description of what she does and her contact information. How long does that take to set up?
Besides, building the website and placing ads is really only busy work to postpone what you know you need to do. MAKE contact with your target market. I could give you many sources for motivational articles, but then I would just be giving you something else to postpone your taking action…. Making contact….
Another friend of mine wrote a very cute, but long poem — just to share a few lines… it’s called getting ready to get ready
I’m prepared to give my business wings
And turn my dreams and thoughts into things..
Just as soon as I tidy my files,
Answer some emails and get rid of these piles
On my messy desk and around the floor
And then I plan to get out the door
Fear will cripple you, which it has… I know gas is expensive, no one likes ‘rejection’ aka the word “no” … AND people will sense your lack of confidence whether you are talking one on one or over the phone……
So, get yourself those business cards, a pretty smile, a professional outfit, and start knocking on real estate doors… realize that many may not be able to afford ‘staging’ right now, so it’s not YOU they may say no to but the extra expense…
If they say no, you didn’t fail, they just weren’t interested… so knock on the next door. If you are afraid, that is what you are promoting, fear… If you believe you will get rejected, you will.
another way to put off action time would be to see if there are any local or close MEETUPS in your area through meetup.com ….. look for realtors, home builders, join and GO to some of the meet ups… You don’t have to pitch them on your deal right off…. just get to know some of them.. Ask questions? If they ask what you do, simply say… “I do home staging. Would you like my card?”
Get out there girl… and GIVE INTO FAITH, not into fear. Faith will make you soar, fear will paralyze you.
Your choice…
~best wishes to you

My brother owns a company that does this exact thing (Staging) all over the world. You will really have to get motivated to compete against huge companies that are already doing this exact thing. Alot of the big well known Real Estate Companies are already doing this as well. Maybe you should go to work for a company that already has this set up to get some experience than go out on your own.
