I know I want to work at home. I used to sell insurance at home & it spoiled me. I think my former employer needs a customer service rep. but I am not sure. This is better than sales cause I would have a steady income. I really messed up my life before by not having a steady income. I had to quite working with a sick family member & I was in debt which is the way a person starts out in auto home ins. sales cause they don't get paid for their sales until the people are due for their policy to begin. Then there were computer problems I had so many things happen. OK, now I have to start over. ...I don't love insurance. I once worked at a friends specialty toy store & I would love to just take orders for a place like that but don't know who is hiring for that. I love books & would love to talk to people ordering books & I have an idea as to who is hiring for that....I know if I call my past employer there is a chance he will hire me as a CSR for the insuance agency. I am kind of panicing because I need money fast. I would have to take a week long class & get lisenced which cost about $500 for the ins. work.....I don't know what to do & have put this off for so long. How can I make this decision. My son told me to go get a local job. If I do that I will make such a little bit of money that I will end up in deeper trouble. Any clarity you can offer?

Well if you don’t have money right now and you are feeling pressured I would just get a ‘job’ job. Look for who is hiring, find out people who are paying in or close to your salary range and just get hired. Once you’ve got that you can take the time to browse work that you’d like to get into permanently, I’m not sure how likely you will be to find work at home, but maybe it could be a position you work into, working the first year in an office, and as you show that you can handle it, move more of your work into your home. If you used to sell insurance I would apply there first since you have the experience. I don’t know what kind of license you are going for, but maybe you could get into a lower bracket so that you don’t need to worry about that initially and then express interest to your boss about moving up, perhaps they will compensate you for the class and work around your schedule so that you can attend.
Remember that any money at all is still money. Is there a guarantee that you will get a job after the class? Most jobs that you are definitely going to receive offer the training in house, or say that once you are hired you will need to complete this training. I’d be a little weary about getting licensed just to get licensed when it may or may not result in a job.
Good luck with everything!
