FOREWORD

‘Whatever your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.’ - Napoleon Hill

American born Napoleon Hill is considered to have influenced more people into success than any other person in history. He has been perhaps the most influential man in the area of personal success technique development, primarily through his classic book Think and Grow Rich which has helped millions of the people and has been important in the life of many successful people such as W. Clement Stone and Og Mandino.

Napoleon Hill was born into poverty in 1883 in a one-room cabin on the Pound River in Wise County, Virginia. At the age of 10 his mother died, and two years later his father remarried. He became a very rebellious boy, but grew up to be an incredible man. He began his writing career at age 13 as a “mountain reporter” for small town newspapers and went on to become America’s most beloved motivational author. Fighting against a class of great disadvantages and pressures, he dedicated more than 25 years of his life to define the reasons by which so many people fail to achieve true financial success and happiness in their life.

During this time he achieved great success as an attorney and journalist. His early career as a reporter helped finance his way through law school. He was given an assignment to write a series of success stories of famous men, and his big break came when he was asked to interview steel-magnate Andrew Carnegie.

Mr. Carnegie commissioned Hill to interview over 500 millionaires to find a success formula that could be used by the average person. These included Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bel, Henry Ford, Elmer Gates, Charles M. Schwab, Theodore Roosevelt, William Wrigley Jr, John Wanamaker, William Jennings Bryan, George Eastman, Woodrow Wilson, William H. Taft, John D. Rockefeller, F. W. Woolworth, Jennings Randolph, among others.

He became an advisor to Andrew Carnegie, and with Carnegie’s help he formulated a philosophy of success, drawing on the thoughts and experience of a multitude of rags-to-riches tycoons. It took Hill over 20 years to produce his book, a classic in the Personal Development field called Think and Grow Rich.

This book has sold over 7 million copies and has helped thousands achieve success.

Two weeks ago I was on my trusty computer writing a talk. In the middle of it, my screen sort of flashed and went black. Diagnosis? Fried motherboard. Luckily I had completely backed up the C drive on an external drive the day before so not much was lost.

I trotted on down to my local Best Buy and got a replacement computer and tried to restore the drive complete. This didn't work. The two systems (old and new) were of different manufacture and the systems slightly different. I've finally got enough restored to get back to work though - thank goodness.

If you just feel that maybe you would like to explore creative ways to buy your home to save some money or maybe just dabble in real estate part time to pick up a some extra cash, your chances of success are maybe 1 in 10. That’s on the outside!

It is not enough just to feel you want to do this. You have to be really, really motivated! You have to be fed up with the way you’ve been treated in the past. You have to be mad at the whole world that has kept you from home ownership. You have to want to own your own home so bad that you can’t think of anything else. It has to consume you!

If you develop that mindset, you increase your odds in this game tremendously. And your chances of success are close, or at, 100%.

But you have to keep yourself psyched up! You have to believe in yourself and ignore comments of the naysayers, no matter how well intentioned they may be. Remember, thousands of people buy real estate every day using creative means, with no qualifying and no credit.

You may have (I mean you probably will have) days when you’re sure you will never be able to find the home you’re looking for. No one will return your calls. Things are not going well at work. Family stress is taking its toll. But don’t give up! Every day will bring you one day closer to your goal.

Some days you just need to take a break - don’t let the situation break you! Read a good book. Take your spouse to the movies. Re-read, or read for the first time, "The Power of Positive Thinking". Or "Think and Grow Rich". Both books have been read and praised by millions for their ability to help develop a positive outlook on life.
